EU-CETA update

International Trade Negotiations
25 September 2017

News

The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the EU and Canada provisionally entered into force on 21 September 2017. Import duties are now reduced to 0% for registered EU exporters. However, producers will not benefit from this arrangement unless they apply for a Registered Exporter (REX) number from their national customs office by 31 December 2017. The REX number is then indicated on the origin declaration of the commercial document of the product, such as an invoice. Exporters are also reminded that local taxes will still apply and have not been removed as a result of CETA.
