Since its creation in 2013, SPIRE has been successfully developing breakthrough technologies and sharing best practices along all stages of existing value chains to enable a competitive, energy and resource efficient process industry in Europe.
SPIRE, together with experts in the field, has developed the SPIRE 2050 Vision - “Towards the next generation of European Process Industries” - an ambitious mission with the objective of steering the process industry through industrial transitions towards a sustainable future within the framework of Horizon Europe.
The extent and pace of technological transitions that our society requires form industry over the next decades are pushing the limits of human knowledge and our ability to deploy innovations. In this, the European process industries see innovation and business opportunities.
SPIRE is now developing its 2050 Roadmap to outline the concrete steps and actions needed to implement the new 2050 Vision, which is centred on new technologies and business models to address climate change and enable a fully circular economy. Eight groups – in which Cerame-Unie is well represented - have been created by the IRIAG (A.SPIRE Industrial Research and Innovation Advisory Group) to form the basis of this process, with the first meeting held on 26 March 2019. An indicative workplan for the 2050 Roadmap is expected by the end of 2019.
SPIRE – launched in late 2013 – is a European contractual public-private partnership (cPPP) involving the cement, ceramics, chemicals, engineering, minerals, non-ferrous metals, steel and water sectors under the Horizon 2020 programme. Visit the website for more.
