On 25 February the Jacques Delors Institute and Euractiv organised a conference on the Energy Union, marking one year since the European Commission launched its “Strategy for an Energy Union”.

EU Energy Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič emphasised the importance of energy efficiency, one of the five pillars of the Energy Union, by calling for the development of smart buildings to further energy efficiency in Europe. Bertrand Piccard, the Swiss pilot of a Solar-powered plane (Solar Impulse) inspired participants by describing his travels around the world on a solar plane and encouraging innovation in energy.
