During the European Council meeting of 22 March 2018 in Brussels, the Member States called on the European Commission to develop a long-term EU greenhouse gas emission reduction strategy to implement the objectives of the Paris Agreement and accelerate the ongoing transition away from fossil fuels. The EU Member States expect a first draft by early 2019, so that the strategy can be finalised by 2020, as agreed upon in Paris in December 2015.
The European ceramic industry, in its Roadmap Paving the Way to 2050, highlights the importance of a supportive regulatory framework that fosters the development and investment in breakthrough technologies and promotes European competitiveness based on sustainable economic growth whilst risk of carbon and job leakage.
