Cerame-Unie supports the goals of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) to reduce packaging waste and enhance circularity, but calls for realistic and technically feasible re-use targets for transport packaging. In this position paper, the European ceramic industry highlights key concerns about the reusability of certain essential packaging formats, such as pallet wrappings and straps, which are vital for product safety and transport efficiency but not suited for re-use. We urge the European Commission to introduce clear exemptions and ensure that sustainability goals are balanced with industrial practicality, safety, and competitiveness.
