Cerame-Unie supports the EU’s ambition to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings through the calculation of whole life-cycle Global Warming Potential (GWP). In response to the revised Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), our position paper outlines key recommendations for a harmonised and practical GWP methodology that reflects the longevity and sustainability of construction products, particularly ceramics. We advocate for realistic targets, a material-neutral approach, and alignment with existing standards to enable meaningful climate action while supporting long-term investments and national specificities.
