With an overwhelming majority of 83%, on 12 May the European Parliament (EP) passed a Resolution against dumping and the granting of market economy status (MES) to China. AEGIS Europe, an industry alliance of which Cerame-Unie is a member, published a press release applauding the vote.

The Resolution is an important signal that the EU will not grant MES until China meets its WTO obligations. It is also a very strong message from the EP to the European Commission (EC) and to the Council, who are yet to address the issue. As for the next steps, the EC is expected to publish an impact assessment and study at the end of May and could present a proposal this summer.
